Assistant Director, Faculty Teaching Initiatives
Beth is the Assistant Director of Faculty Teaching Initiatives at the Yale Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning, where she conducts consultations, classroom observations, and workshops for instructors across a wide variety of pedagogical topics, including active learning, assessment, inclusive teaching, and educational technology. She also teaches a Yale graduate course entitled, “Theory and Practice of Scientific Teaching.” Previously, she served as the STEM Education Program Director, training faculty and future faculty in evidence-based instruction through her management of the Summer Institutes on Scientific Teaching and the Helmsley Postdoctoral Teaching Program. She began her work at the center as a McDougal Teaching Fellow and a Coordinator of the teaching fellows.

Beth received her A.B. summa cum laude with honors in biology with a concentration in biochemistry from the College of the Holy Cross. After graduation, she worked as a researcher at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston before completing her Ph.D. in cell biology at Yale, studying cell adhesion in the Calderwood lab. Outside of work, Beth has served as a mentor for Women in Science at Yale and the Global STEM Alliance’s 1000 Girls, 1000 Futures Program. She has also volunteered with the New Haven Family Science Nights Program and New Haven Science Fair Program. She is a fellow and undergraduate advisor in Silliman College at Yale, and teaches a summer course for local high school students entitled “DNA: From 3D to 23andMe” for the Yale Pathways to Science Program.

Beth is the incoming chair of the POD Network Membership Committee.
